The extract from the artichoke leaf

The artichoke extract is traditionally made mostly from the leaves of the artichoke and has been for many hundred years.

The artichoke was already very popular with the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, as shown not least by extensive illustrations on the walls of the pharaoh's burial chambers.

Artichoke leaves have a high proportion of bitter substances (up to 6 percent), such as cynarine, but also numerous flavonoids. The leaves have the highest content of these active ingredients when they are harvested before flowering.

Artichoke extract - an ancient and well-researched remedy

The most famous artichoke species is under the botanical name Cynara cardunculus Var. scolymus Known. Thus it belongs to the genus of the Korbblütler. By the way, there are now over 100 different variations of artichokes.

Artichokes are also referred to as flower vegetables, which is not a botanical expression, but nevertheless a nice paraphrase. The plant was originally cultivated in the Mediterranean (Turkey, Persia, Spain). They are now found in all zones with a Mediterranean climate.

The plant is one year old and ready for harvest between July and September.
